Why study at Griffith?
The scarcity and quality of water resources both nationally and globally is rapidly emerging as one of the most pressing environmental issues. The Federal Government of Australia has recently announced the establishment of the Office of Water Resources, with Parliamentary Secretary Malcolm Turnbull claiming “water is the biggest environmental challenge that Australia faces”.
The Environmental Jobs Network based in Melbourne conducted a study on environmental employment in order to better assist those seeking an environmental career path. The group was interested in the range of environmental positions and what the positions entailed, required skills and qualifications, and likely trends in these fields.
According to the study, growth in environmental employment has occurred over the last 30 years and the water area is one of 7 areas in which growth is set to continue.
Griffith’s water expertise
The Australian Rivers Institute was established by Griffith University in 2006 to provide a focus for Australia's largest group of university-based scientists with expertise in river, catchment and coastal research and education and builds on the University's long-standing reputation in environmental science.
Griffith also practices what it teaches. Water conservation measures are constantly being put into place at Griffith. You can read more about what we are doing at our Water Saving site.
