Turtle Bachelor of Marine Science

The oceans are human's last frontier to explore, exploit and manage.  Issues such as global climate change, food production and waste management are intimately linked with the marine environment.  Tackling these complex issues requires graduates who are equipped with a multi-disciplinary foundation in the life and physical sciences, as well as resource management skills.

This three year program provides training in biology, coastal physical sciences and coastal management through a wide range of core and elective courses.  You will also be offered placement opportunities in the marine industry to equip you with hands-on experience in topics such as fisheries, conservation, and management.  The excellent environmental setting of the city of Gold Coast, situated in the most rapidly developing region of Australia, provides ideal learning opportunities for this program.

The Bachelor of Marine Science offers specialisations in Coastal Physical Science; Coastal Resource Management; Marine Chemical Sciences; and Marine Ecology.

Bachelor of Science (Marine Biology major)

This program is your path to developing the specialised skills and practical knowledge for a variety of rewarding professional and research careers in the biological, chemical and physical, environmental and mathematical sciences. You can choose specific majors, or study a general mix of science, depending on your career and professional goals. In year one, you will take a range of courses to give you a well rounded science education and to prepare you for major studies, which provide further concentration and depth in your chosen field, or breadth of study in additional fields.

The Marine Biology major combines detailed study of sandy shore and rocky headlands biology, estuarine environments such as seagrass and mangroves, marine animals and coastal processes. By combining environmental management and in-shore marine biology, this is a highly employment-focused marine biology major with extensive fieldwork components. Minors can be selected biology and environmental science.
