Vision

The vision is to establish the Institute as a world-leading centre for Glycomics, in unravelling the language of carbohydrates in biology and translating this knowledge to innovative 21st century medicine to address the world’s new and emerging diseases.

To achieve this vision, key strategies include:

  • Developing a sustainable pool of scientific talent across existing and affiliated disciplines.
  • Integrating the different talents in a multi-disciplinary team approach with a project focus and management.
  • Supporting the endeavour with world-class facilities.
  • Growing a cohesive community that stimulates and nurtures creative and entrepreneurial ideas.
  • Establishing strategic research collaborations with leading institutions around the world.
  • Forming research and development collaborations with the biopharmaceutical industry.
It is envisaged that the value of the scientific talent pool will be increased by:
  • Recruiting and retaining glycoscientists experienced in glycochemistry, glycobiochemistry, microbial glycobiology and other related disciplines.
  • Training and mentoring in-house talent via postgraduate research programs.
The above outlined strategies will enable the growth of the Institute to make significant contributions to human health.
