Mammalian Glycomics

Cancer

The Institute has a focus on clarifying the roles of carbohydrates in cancer. Some of the projects in this area include the investigation of:

  • Regulation of cell surface sialic acid to identify novel targets for anti-metastatic cancer therapy.
  • Interactions between anti-cancer drugs linked to hyaluronan and the hyaluronan-binding proteins.
  • Galectins as a target for anti-cancer drugs.
  • Boronolectins for drug targeting.

There are plans to expand the research to other areas of medical importance such as immunology and inflammation, where the evidence for carbohydrate involvement is growing rapidly.
