Research

The Centre has vigorous research programs in both Theoretical and Experimental Physics. One of its features is the cross fertilisation of ideas and developments through the close collaboration between theoreticians and experimentalists within the Centre.

As well as collaborating with the experimentalists, the Theoretical Physics Group also pursues independent research into fundamental aspects of quantum physics, such as quantum measurement, rectrodictive quantum dynamics, interpretations of quantum theory, solid state devices and quantum data security.

The experimental research is carried out in four state-of-the-art laboratories and involves trapping ions, laser cooling of new species, atomic physics and ultra short laser pulses.
