Fast-track your research career
The most intriguing science degree around just got a whole lot more flexible with the launch of the first Bachelor of Biomolecular Science on the Gold Coast.Top local students like Melody Cheong from Varsity Lakes have previously had to travel to Griffith’s Brisbane campus to study biomolecular science. “I think Gold Coast students will take advantage of the new degree; it’s a very promising science with lots of career options,” Melody said. “I want to work in medical research, particularly researching cures for genetic conditions and genetic links to diseases such as cancer. This degree will fast-track my research career.”
Head of Griffith School of Biomolecular and Physical Sciences Professor Frank Clarke said Griffith had also restructured the degree to stay ahead of the world’s fastest developing science. “Top students can choose from the three year degree or the new four-year Bachelor of Biomolecular Science (Advanced) in which students complete an Honours year in a real-life research centre, or as work experience with an industry client,” he said.
“This is designed to meet the growing demand for professional, workplace-ready, research-ready graduates.” Professor Clarke said Biomolecular Science students could specialise in key areas such as:
- cell and molecular therapies;
- medicinal chemistry,
- drug design and development; or
- plant and environmental biotechnology.
- medical research;
- pharmaceuticals;
- biotechnology;
- agriculture; and
- environmental protection amongmany, many others.
