Research Interests

  • Molecular investigations of a number of biological systems including: connective tissues (particularly in relation to arthritis); Plasmodium and Babesia (mechanisms of erythrocyte invasion and vaccine development); synapse-specific proteins at the neuromuscular junction; cellular differentiation studies of olfactory neurons; and atomic force microscopy of biological systems
  • Identification of several kinases which are implicated in the signalling pathways leading to differentiation of neurons
  • Identification of a novel gene involved in the response of cells to stress
  • Interest in creating multidisciplinary teams that are able to tackle problems not accessible to single disciplinary groups including current research concerning complementary medicine approaches to prevention of arthritis.
