Research opportunities

Research higher degree (Masters and PhD) and Honours students play an important role in the research efforts of the Institute. Student projects are closely aligned with our research programs.

You will be well supported in terms of computing and laboratory facilities, equipment and travel support to national and international meetings. A collaborative and cooperative culture encourages students to share their ideas, progress and findings.

We have a strong commitment to educate and prepare young scientists in an internationally competitive and high quality research environment. We offer research opportunities at several levels.

Postgraduate study

If you have an undergraduate degree in related fields, you can apply to do a research higher degree with supervision by an Institute staff member. The first step is to contact the relevant Institute staff member to discuss an appropriate research project (PDF 428k). The projects are usually multidisciplinary and can be tailored to suit your interest.

Honours projects

To do an Honours project within the Institute, you must enrol through the School of Biomolecular and Physical Sciences or the School of Medical Sciences. For further information regarding the enrolment process, please contact the School Administrative Officer in the relevant School.

Scholarships for postgraduate studies and honours projects are available through the Institute.

Third year projects

Third year projects can be undertaken within the Institute, and should initially be discussed with the relevant Institute staff member.

Work experience or Summer Scholarships

During the summer holidays, work experience may be available at the Institute. Contact Fiona Crone for further information.

To find out more

To find out more about potential research areas for postgraduate study or honours projects, you can look at the current list of research projects (PDF 428k) and/or contact the appropriate staff member highlighted in the projects list.
