In the second quarter of 2008 the Institute for Glycomics is scheduled to complete a $22M building program creating an integrated glycomics research precinct at Griffith University, Gold Coast Campus. This key development will triple the existing floor space and number of researchers at the Institute for Glycomics. Furthermore, this will add new research capabilities in the areas of microbial glycomics, and pre-clinical drug development.
Key Features:
- Research laboratory and office space for 150 staff members.
- An new infection control animal holding facility specifically designed for PC2 and PC3 experimentation.
- A Glycochemistry Facility for synthesis of organic compounds for use in drug design and development.
- A Glycobiochemistry Facility for molecular biology and biological screening of lead compounds for drug development.
- A Glycobiology Facility for studying microbial glycomics in pathogenic viruses, bacteria and parasites.
This ambitious expansion program will significantly strengthen the Institute???s existing research programs in Mammalian Glycomics, Microbial Glycomics and Enabling Glycotechnology. The completion of this glycomics precinct will enable the Institute to expand its research focus - through international recruitment of glycoscientists; and broaden its links with industry - through local biotech enterprises and global pharmaceutical companies.
