Where can your degree in Forensic Science take you?
The Forensic Science Program equips you to work as a scientist in your chosen discipline as well as providing the additional option of practice as a Forensic Scientist in that discipline, something that a Bachelor of Science degree does not.
Past graduates have worked in Government and Private forensic laboratories in Queensland, interstate and overseas, and have also chosen to work as scientists in private companies without forensic involvement. You will be eligible to join Police Services/Forces and pursue careers as specialist Forensic Scientific Officers. If you meet the necessary standards, you will be encouraged to undertake higher studies, leading through honours to an M.Phil degree or a PhD qualification if you choose. Some of our graduates have enrolled in further degree studies, including Graduate Medical Programs, and additional opportunities exist in such areas as education and science journalism.
Bachelor of Forensic Science/ Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice
You will graduate with professional qualifications in Criminology and Criminal Justice and Forensic Science.
An absorbing career as a forensic scientist in the government or private sector awaits you, but with your core scientific grounding, you will also have the flexibility to consider other fields such as molecular biology, analytical chemistry and biomedical science in public and private sector, universities and biotechnology companies. Your knowledge of criminology and the criminal justice system opens up even more careers in policing, corrections, security and regulatory law enforcement, customs and crime prevention.
You will also be qualified for postgraduate professional study or a research Honours degree in either the forensic science or criminology and criminal justice areas which can lead to a PhD and a research career in your chosen area.
