Biochemistry and molecular biology

Biochemistry and molecular biology explores the molecular basis of life – DNA and RNA, genes and proteins, enzymes and metabolism, food and energy, genomics and genetic engineering, proteomics and protein engineering. It is the basis for all the biosciences and opens up a diverse range of career options.

Biochemistry and molecular biology is offered as a major in the Bachelor of Science and Bachelor Science (Advanced with Honours).

Biotechnology and molecular biology

Are you intrigued by the application of modern science to environmental sustainability, the production of new therapeutic treatments for human diseases? If you are, an exciting career in the exploding area of biotechnology is the ideal program for you.

Biotechnology is technology based on biological sciences that is used in applications to medicine, agriculture and food science. The rapid advances in biotechnology worldwide reflect the importance of this science to economic development around the world.

As with most areas of biology, many of today’s enormous changes in the biotechnology industry are due in large part to the impact brought about by the rapid advances in molecular biology. Molecular biology has provided the means by which humans can manipulate biological systems for application to a diverse number of biotechnology industries.

If you are interested in a career in biotechnology, you will also need the skills of a molecular biologist to be able to keep pace with the demanding molecular approaches being brought to bear on biotechnology problems – be it the development of new vaccines or drugs or the manipulation of plant resources for increased food production or pest tolerance.

Our Master of Science with Honours (Biotechnology and Molecular Biology) provides the knowledge and skills you will need to be successful as a practicing biotechnologist. It will enable you to choose from a wide range of biotechnology industries or research organisations that are using the latest advances and opportunities in cellular and molecular based approaches to address biotechnology challenges. This program is specifically designed for international students.
