Research

Dr Neumann is interested in attention and learning and the way these basic processes can influence our lives, either through psychological illness or performance in sport and work. He uses a psychophysiological approach by combining the study of overt behaviour with the measurement of physiological responses.  Three major research projects are:

  • Optimising performance under pressure: Testing and developing athletes’ attentional focus strategies. Collaborators: A/Prof. Pat Thomas (Griffith University) and Dr. Sue Hooper (Centre of Excellence for Applied Sport Science Research, Queensland Academy of Sport)
  • The enhancing or detrimental effects of nicotine and smoking on cognitive functions.  Collaborators: Prof. John Furedy (Toronto University & Bond University) and Prof. Greg Boyle (Bond University)
  • The return of extinguished conditioned behaviour and its relevance for understanding the treatment of phobia and addiction.  Collaborators: Dr. Allison Waters (Griffith University)
