Frequently asked questions

How will I know if my application was successful?
Once the application has been processed, we will advise you if your application has been either successful or not successful. If you are successful, you will receive a letter of offer. Unsuccessful applications will be notified by letter.
How do I accept or decline the scholarship offer?
To accept a scholarship offer, you are required to read and agree to the Terms and Conditions of the scholarship and return the acceptance form by the due date. Don’t forget to include your banking details.  To decline a scholarship offer, simply tick the relevant box on the acceptance form and return it.
How can I ensure I have the best chance of receiving a scholarship?
Ensure that you include all relevant details on your application. An application form that is only partially completed could disadvantage you. Also ensure that you submit your application by the due date.
When can I expect to hear whether I’ve been offered a scholarship?
Expected advice dates for 2008 scholarships are:
  • Uni-Start Scheme:  Commencing students - late December 2007
  • Chancellor’s and Commonwealth Scholarships: Continuing students - February 2008
  • Chancellor’s and Commonwealth Scholarships: Commencing students who put in applications after 31 October 2007 - late January to early February 2008
  • Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarships - late December 2007
  • Other scholarships: 1-2 weeks after the closing date.
How does my scholarship affect my Centrelink benefits?
Commonwealth Scholarship payments are not counted as income for the purpose of the social security income test. Please refer to the ‘Income from Scholarships’ section of the Centrelink website.  However, it is highly recommended that you advise Centrelink that you will be receiving a scholarship and the amount you will receive. Most other Scholarship payments are counted as income for the purpose of the social security income test and you must advise Centrelink of the payment. For more details please refer to Centrelink Information Guide to Social Security Law – Scholarships.
How does my scholarship affect my Income Tax?
Griffith do not provide taxation advice and students are advised to seek the services of a professional taxation agent. Students should refer to the Australian Taxation Office website to determine liability.
