The George Alexander Foundation was established by Mr Alexander AM (Order of Australia) in 1972 to provide grants for public charitable purposes in Australia. The objective of the scholarship is to assist with costs associated with accommodation fees for students who can demonstrate academic merit and the capacity to achieve their full potential while studying at Griffith University.
There are a number of scholarships available for Year 12 school-leavers who are accepted into a full time undergraduate academic program and have applied and accepted to reside at a nominated Griffith University Residential Colleges.
Programs of study
Any undergraduate academic program at Griffith University and be accepted to reside at the nominated Griffith University Residential College.
Entry requirements
Applicants must have met relevant School or Faculty entry requirements for admission to a Bachelors degree program on a full-time basis.
Selection criteria
Selection will be based on the following criteria:
- open to Australian citizens
- year 12 school-leavers (students who have been on exchange programs for up to 12 months after completion of year 12 are also eligible to apply)
- applicants applying for, and accepted to study an undergraduate academic program at Griffith University, in the immediate calendar year following the scholarship application closing date. Scholarships cannot be deferred.
- applicants applying and accepted to reside at a Griffith University residential college (Nathan, Mt Gravatt and Gold Coast campus accommodation)*, and who are intending to reside there for three full academic years
- Academic merit: applicants must meet Overall Positions (OP) from 1 to 6 or rank equivalent and shall be given initial consideration.
- a brief, typed statement of no more than 500 words addressing:
- How the scholarship would benefit you and enhance your opportunities at University?
- What contributions you envisage you would be able to make to the Griffith University College's community and the wider university community?
- a resume outlining the following and providing evidence of leadership potential:
- academic merit including awards, competitions (both National and State) and school-based awards
- positions held at school
- extracurricular activities
- employment and work experience
- community activities, including volunteer work
- any additional evidence of leadership or leadership potential.
- two referee reports:
- one reference to be completed by a person qualified to comment on your academic studies
- one reference by either a current or past employer or a person competent to supply a character reference.
