The Queensland Resources Council (QRC) offers the QRC/Griffith University (GU) Education Scholarship to recognise high achieving pre-service teachers undertaking mathematics, science and technology specialisations, who have demonstrated an interest in teaching in resources sector communities.  

The Scholarship is open to final-year Griffith University students who are enrolled in a Bachelor or Graduate Diploma of Education degree in 2012.

The Scholarship provides an opportunity for the recipient to engage in professional development and networking activities associated with the sector to increase their understanding of the industry, and to highlight career opportunities for teachers in resources sector communities.

The Scholarship will be presented at a GU ceremony. QRC may also choose to conduct a subsequent presentation at a Resources sector function in the year of the Award.

The Scholarship is valued at $2000 paid in two instalments (paid over a one year period.) 

Programs of study

Any Bachelor or Graduate Diploma of Education degree.

Eligibility and selection criteria

Selection will be based on the following criteria:

  • achieve a GPA of 5.5 or above
  • the quality of the written application
  • the quality of the case made in the application (including considerations of special consideration).
The recipient will be determined based on shortlisting via a written application and selection after formal interview process, involving representatives from QRC and GU.

The written application must include:

  • a signed copy of the QRC/GU Education Scholarship Terms and Conditions
  • copies of relevant academic transcripts
  • a completed application form
  • a written response (no more than 200 words) to the statement:
    • Science is an integral part of the curriculum, and an important part of a holistic education; and
  • overview of other skills you would bring to your teaching (no more than 200 words).
