Selection criteria
To be eligible for the Patience Thoms Indigenous Australian (Honours/Postgraduate) Scholarship, an applicant must:
- have met the requirements for admission to an Honours (embedded or end-on) program or a Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Masters program
- be an Indigenous Australian or Torres Strait Islander
- demonstrate financial disadvantage by being in receipt of a means-tested Commonwealth income support payment (such as ABSTUDY or Youth Allowance) or by a comprehensive assessment completed by Griffith University.
In accordance with existing commitments made by the University, at least two scholarships will be reserved for eligible applicants who belong to the Kombumerri People.
Value and conditions
There are 16 scholarships available, each to the value of up to $4000 ($2000 for part-time) in material support (i.e. computer, textbooks etc.) and/or up to $1000 ($500 for part-time students) of financial support to be paid over two instalments. This is to a total value of $4000 for a year for full-time students ($2000 for part-time students). Masters students who take more than one year to complete their program will be able to re-apply for further support.
