Mr Yasuji Hatano, President of Kokusai Motorcars Co Ltd. of Japan, established the Km Hatano Scholarships in 1989.  Mr Hatano donated $100,000 to encourage the students in the pursuit of excellence in academic achievement, leadership and contribution to the Gold Coast Community.  Up to two (2) scholarships of up to $4,000 are available for 2012.

The Scholarship may be extended, suspended or revoked in accordance with the Regulations and Conditions. The Committee will retain the right to withdraw the Scholarship. The Selection Panel holds the right to not award the Scholarship in any given year if in their opinion there is no worthy candidate.

Be enrolled students in a Bachelors academic program offered at the Gold Coast Campus of Griffith University.

Eligibility

Selection will be based on the following criteria:

  • GPA of 6.0 or above (students with less than a 6.0 GPA will be considered in exceptional circumstances as determined by the Committee);
  • Be enrolled students in a Bachelors academic program offered at the Gold Coast Campus of Griffith University;
  • Be enrolled in a least 40CP and be enrolled in sufficient courses to be eligible to graduate at the end of the current year;
  • Have completed at least 50% of the courses for their current academic program from courses offered at the Gold Coast Campus of Griffith University;
  • If enrolled in a one year Honours academic program following a three-year Bachelors academic program, have completed at least 50% of the Bachelors program courses at the Gold Coast Campus of Griffith University;
  • Evidence of Leadership;
  • Service to the Community outside the University;
  • Service to the Community within the University;
  • Ambassadorial qualities;
  • Short listed applicants will be interviewed and will be required to prepare and present on an applicants chosen topic to the Selection Committee.
  • Applicants who have previously been awarded a Km Hatano Scholarship are not eligible to apply.
