Reforms to student income support and new Commonwealth-based scholarships.
On 18 March 2010, the Government introduced new reforms to increase access to, and better target, income support for students who need it most, through a fairer and more equitable allocation of existing resources. As a result of these changes, from 1 April 2010, you may now be eligible to access this support for the first time.- If you are receiving Youth Allowance, Austudy or ABSTUDY you may be eligible for the Student Start-Up Scholarship.
- If you are receiving dependent-rate Youth Allowance or ABSTUDY and have to move away from home to study you may be eligible for the Relocation Scholarship.
Continuing Students who have been in receipt of the Commonwealth Education Costs Scholarships and Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarships will continue to receive these scholarships under a grandfathering scheme set up by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.
To find out how these reforms might affect you, visit:
- Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) website.
