Sunnybank Rugby Scholarship

Sunnybank Rugby believes in a whole of life approach with its players and as such aims to develop players off the field as well as on it. The Sunnybank Rugby Scholarship provides assistance for talented rugby players who have the ability to achieve sound academic results at a tertiary level. The scholarship is available to both commencing and continuing students (continuing is defined as students currently enrolled at Griffith University or students prepared to transfer their studies to Griffith University).

Any Griffith University Undergraduate academic program.

Value and conditions

The scholarship is valued at approximately $6000. Successful applicants to the Sunnybank Rugby Scholarship will receive:
  • payment by Sunnybank Rugby for the Student Contribution Charge equal to $2000 per annum, payable in semester instalments, pro-rata according to the number of credit points Equivalent Full-time Study Load (EFTSL) in which the scholarship recipient is enrolled up to the maximum benefit of the scholarship.
  • a place in a unique program called ‘After the full time siren’ – Life Skills for the Elite Athlete. This program, hosted by the Griffith Sports College, is a 16-week course bringing together athletes from around Brisbane, equippin

Selection criteria

Selection will be based on the following criteria (attach to your application form, in a resume format, with evidence of the following):
  • demonstrated high achievement in rugby (union or league)
  • have competed at international, national or state level in rugby (union or league)
  • be an Australian citizen
  • be eligible for admission to any of Griffith University’s undergraduate programs
  • referee reports
  • be at least 17 years old as at 31 December 2008
  • must agree to play rugby at Sunnybank Rugby for the duration of the scholarship
  • be enrolled in a minimum of 2 subjects per semester.
