Griffith University’s Sir Samuel Griffith scholarships scheme is one of Australia’s most comprehensive, generous and flexible scholarship programs for academic excellence.

Griffith is offering 70 prestigious Sir Samuel Griffith scholarships to outstanding students commencing an undergraduate degree in 2009. As well as acknowledging and rewarding your academic achievements, Sir Samuel Griffith scholarships allow you to choose from two benefit packages so you receive maximum benefit.

Griffith University is named in honour of Sir Samuel Walker Griffith, former Queensland Premier and Chief Justice, Australia's first Chief Justice.

A recipient of a university scholarship himself, Sir Samuel was a lifelong advocate of government support for education and scholarships, recognising the vital role early scholarships played in launching his distinguished career.

Entry requirements

Applicants must have met relevant School or Faculty entry requirements for admission to a Bachelors degree program on a full-time basis.

Value and conditions

Successful applicants can choose to receive:

Scholarship value and conditions
Payment type Total value Frequency of payments
Cash $7000 received in the first year of study
Cash $4500 a year for the next three (3) years

or

Payment of the Student Contribution Charge (formerly known as HECS) for up to four (4) years for a Commonwealth Supported Place for Australian citizens (conditions apply).

Successful applicants will also be invited to be part of the Griffith Honours College which will provide students with enriching experiences in combination with an undergraduate degree studies. Many of these experiences will be exclusive to Honours College students and will give you the skills in high demand by employers.

In addition, sponsored Sir Samuel Griffith scholarships are offered:

  • Sir Samuel Griffith scholarship – sponsored by ANZ (targeted toward students interested in a program offered by the Griffith Business School)

You are not required to submit any additional documents for the sponsored scholarship.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:
  • be an OP 1-6 or equivalent student
  • have met the relevant school or faculty entry requirements for admission to a Bachelors degree program on a full-time basis
  • be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status
  • not have already completed the requirements of an Undergraduate degree.
