The Application Process
Important Note to Applicants
LIEF applications must be submitted on RMS which the ARC has introduced to replace GAMS. Users may experience some technical difficulties when first using this system. System difficulties or questions are to be referred in the first instance to Tina Anderson or Alicia Hopkins email ore-grants@griffith.edu.au, ext 57785 or 57378.
- 1. Download and read ARC LIEF information from the ARC
- Information will be available at http://www.arc.gov.au/ncgp/lief/lief_default.htm. You should download the Funding Rules (PDF 320k), Instructions to Applicants (PDF 512k), for funding commencing in 2013, and also two certification forms, one for organisations and one for individuals.
- 2. Complete the application form in RMS

- Codes and classifications (FoR and SEO codes)

All research staff are advised to update their personal details in RMS before beginning an application. This will ensure auto-population of relevant information in the application form.
- 3. Complete PDF section
- The ARC LIEF application process requires that many sections of the application form be completed in separate word documents and then converted to PDF. (Note: Do not scan documents) Researchers are advised that they will need software that will allow them to create a pdf document, such as Adobe Acrobat Professional, to undertake this task.
- 4. Complete the Certification proforma
- Download the Certification proforma and obtain all signatures. Allow plenty of time to obtain the signatures of the contributing organisations – these have to be signed off by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research) or equivalent person at your partner’s organisation, and these people are not always available at a moment’s notice.
- 5. Submit proposal to Research Office
- Once each of the sections denoted in the “Draft Summary Proposal” page have a green tick and show “Complete and valid”, click on the “Submit proposal to Research Office” button at the bottom of the screen. After local submission you will no longer have access to the proposal and will be required to contact the relevant Research Grants Officer to have your proposal unsubmitted to make any further changes.
- 6. Complete the Research Grants Application Coversheet
- Download and complete the research grants application coversheet (DOC 444k).
- 7. Send hard copies of the following documents to the Office for Research

- Completed and signed Certification by collaborating Chief Investigator
- Completed and signed Certification by collaborating Organisation
- Research Grants Application Coversheet
- 8. Feedback and amendments
- Following an initial review of your application by the Office for Research, feedback will be provided and your application unsubmitted in RMS. You will then need to make the necessary changes and resubmit.
- 9. Submission of the application
- Electronic submission of the final applications to the ARC is the responsibility of the Office for Research. All applicants will be contacted to confirm that their application is in its' final format ready for submission.
