Concerns about the conduct of research at Griffith University

Griffith University takes very seriously our responsibilities to those who participate in our research. The principles of ethical conduct of human research are described in the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007). These principles are to inform the design, conduct and reporting of human research. A project is considered to be human research if humans will be participating in data collection (everything from surveys and interviews, through to clinical trials) or where a project will involve access to identified personal information that is not already on the public record. Guidance and resources for researchers with regards to these principles can be found in the Griffith University Research Ethics Manual. Anyone who has concerns or a complaint relating to a Griffith University research project, and its adherence to these principles of ethical conduct of the research, should contact the Senior Manager, Research Ethics and Integrity.

Scientific work with animals raise important ethical considerations. The responsibilities of those who work with animals can be found in the Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes (2004) and the Queensland Animal Care and Protection Act (2001). The University has adopted these principles and standards. Anyone who has concerns or a complaint relating to Griffith University research work and its adherence to these principles of animal welfare and ethics, should contact the Senior Manager, Research Ethics and Integrity.

The design, conduct and reporting of all research conducted by Griffith University researchers must adhere to the principles found in the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (2007). Griffith University has adopted and implemented these principles, as described by the Griffith University Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research. The Griffith Code covers such matters as: the accurate reporting of the results of research, authorship, the responsible management of data, peer review and conflicts of interest. Anyone who has concerns or a complaint relating to a Griffith University research project and its adherence to these principles should contact the Senior Manager, Research Ethics and Integrity.
