Biography
Bill received his Ph.D. in the field of philosophy from The University of Queensland in July 2004. He has lectured in ethics and philosophy at UQ, ACU (McAuley) and Bond University, and has been a research fellow in the Institute for Ethics, Governance and Law (IEGL) at Griffith University and QUT. He is currently working as a research fellow at the Key Centre for Ethics, Law, Justice and Governance, where he is also program leader for corporate governance and social responsibility.
Research Expertise
Bill’s current research focuses on philosophical aspects of wellbeing, virtue theory, moral psychology, theories of justice, and various topics in applied ethics and philosophy of law. He is the author of several papers addressing these and related themes, and of a monograph, Moral Reflection (2009), which introduces and explores the near-emergence of a virtue of moral reflectiveness in the ethics of Socrates, Aristotle and Immanuel Kant. His recent publications include ‘Above the Sceptred Sway: Retrieving the Quality of Mercy’ (Critica, 2008), ‘Is Agent-based Virtue Ethics Self-undermining?’ (Ethical Perspectives, 2010), ‘Sen and Aristotle on Well-being’ (Australian Journal of Social Issues, 2010), and ‘Sincerity and Self-Deception’ (Philosophical Writings, 2010).
