Dr Sotiriadou started her career as a professional athlete in sailing and built on that experience with her PhD on sport development processes and practice in Australia. She has published her work in refereed journals, (such as the Journal of Sport Management, the International Journal of Sport Management and the Sport Management Review) and contributed to understanding sport development through her involvement with international conference presentations as well as workshops that allowed both academics and practitioners to consider current sport development practices. Her research has gained such acceptance that she has been invited to consult the ASC, Cycling Australia, and Sarawak (Malaysia) on sport development. Popi is a Senior Lecturer at the Griffith Business School and has served as the Undergraduate Sport Management Program Coordinator at Bond University and the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine. She is the Vice President of the Sport Management Association of Australia and New Zealand (SMAANZ) and Chaired the 15th SMAANZ conference hosted at Bond University, in November 2009. Popi was the Guest Editor for a special issue of Sport Management Review on sport development published in 2008, the author of a book on “The sport development processes and practices in Australia: The attraction, retention, transition and nurturing of participants and athletes”, and the forthcoming book on “Managing high performance sport” Routledge.
