Mike Watkins has teaching and research interests in the social-psychology of leisure and tourism experiences; learning theories and instructional models, and education and training of industry personnel. His research is predominantly focused on understanding difference and change in leisure and travel experiences, and has sought to investigate how individuals and industry workers develop more complex activity meanings and occupational roles. This knowledge is used to help people improve their well-being, design better leisure and tourism services, and increase the effectiveness of industry training programs. Mike has provided consultancy services to a range of federal, state and local government departments, and industry bodies. His publications appear in academic journals and industry reports in Australia, New Zealand, China, North America, England and Europe.
