Dr Kevin Filo is a Lecturer at Griffith University in the Department of Tourism, Leisure, Hotel and Sport Management where his primary research interests focus on the synergy that exists between sport and charity in the sport event context. He previously served as an Assistant Professor of Sport Management at the University of Massachusetts (UMass). He received his PhD in 2008 from Griffith University. His PhD research examined the motivation and meaning individuals derive from charity sport event participation. Dr. Filo holds a Master’s Degree (MEd) in Sport Management from the University of Texas at Austin, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Social Welfare from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 2004-05, he served as Merchandising Coordinator for the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF), managing the supply chains for the highly successful LIVESTRONG wristband campaign, a cause-related marketing campaign between Nike and the LAF, which has raised over $80 million for the LAF. He has published his research in Journal of Sport Management, Journal of Leisure Research, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, Sport Marketing Quarterly, and International Journal of Sport Management and Marketing among others, and continues to collaborate with a number of academics both within Australia and internationally, investigating the relationship that exists between sport and charity.
