FORMAT
Interactive Powerpoint presentations with video and audience participation plus workshop activities
OBJECTIVE
To inform participants about new directions in reading comprehension. Show why some children have difficulties. To show how comprehension can be taught to all ability levels so that students develop self-regulatory strategies
AUDIENCE
Teachers (Primary and Secondary), psychologists, speech pathologists, teacher aids, & Parents
SCHEDULE
  • Session 1  (9.00-10.30) What is Reading Comprehension and why do many students find it difficult?
  • 10.30-11.00 Morning Tea
  • Session 2 (11.00-12.30) Comprehension: Using Visual and verbal strategies to develop reading comprehension
  • Lunch (12.30- 1.30)
  • Session 3 (1.30-3.00) Developing strategic and self-regulating learners in cooperative settings
  • Afternoon tea (3.00-3.30)
  • Session 4 (3.30-4.00) Q & A Gary Woolley and volunteers from the participants.
N.B. Each of the first three sessions will be interactive and will have a 30-40 minute workshop session
