Dr Dwight Zakus is a Senior Lecturer of Sport Management in the Department of Tourism, Leisure, Hotel and Sport Management on the Gold Coast Campus of Griffith University, Australia. He has previously taught for the Universities of Alberta, Regina, and Saskatchewan in Canada and at Linnaeus University in Sweden. In the past he was deputy head of the department and Program Convenor for the Master of Business degree.
Dwight also is the Vice-President (Academic) for the Griffith Branch of the NTEU, which includes serving as a Divisional and National NTEU Councillor, on Griffith University’s Academic Staff Consultative Committee, and on the University Council. He has served on club and provincial rugby union and school district boards, on university school and faculty boards, and on scholarly boards and editorial committees.
His teaching and research interests include: social capital and volunteer sport governance, sport development systems, sport ethics, and the Olympic movement. His publications include over 50 books, book chapters, journal articles, conference papers, and industry reports. He has graduated 13 HRD students to date. His consultancy roles include those with state/provincial sport governing bodies and government departments, with national coaching programs, and small businesses.
In addition, he is a Visiting Associate in the Faculty of Business, University of Technology Sydney (in the Australian Centre for Olympic Studies), a research member of the International Health Ethics Research Team at the University of Regina, Canada, and is an Honorary Consultant and Senior Researcher with the International Bioethics Research Centre of Shandong Province, Shandong University, Jinan, Peoples Republic of China.
