Academic profile and research expertise

Calvin Smith is a Senior Lecturer in Higher Education at Griffith University. His research focuses on the evaluation of teaching, courses, programs and university environments; staff development for enhancing teaching quality and scholarship; the evaluation of learning environments for quality improvement and assurance purposes; and the relationships between learning environments and student learning outcomes, both discipline-specific and generic. Presently he is developing a measurement model for the evaluation of work-integrated-learning curricula. His teaching responsibilities include Research Higher Degree supervisor training and he is developing an outcomes-focused framework to inform Research Higher Degree supervision practice.

He is also a co-investigator with colleagues from two other Australian universities, on a National Carrick-funded investigation examining the approaches taken across the higher education sector to the integration and assessment of generic graduate capabilities.
