Professor Chris Guilding is a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. He has taught accounting and finance in universities in Australia, Canada, England, Hong Kong and New Zealand. Chris is sole author of the Elsevier book Accounting Essentials for Hospitality Decision Makers, and lead co-author of The Key Elements of Introductory Accounting published by John Wiley.
Chris has had a long-standing research interest in how management accounting systems may be tailored to meet the needs of marketing managers. He has conducted research concerned with valuing brands, accounting for competitors, trade credit management and customer accounting. He has more than 50 refereed publications in journals that include: Accounting, Organizations and Society, Accounting and Finance, Accounting and Business Research, Advances in Management Accounting, Business Horizons, The International Journal of Accounting, The International Journal of Hospitality Management, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research, British Journal of Management, Journal of Marketing Management, Journal of Strategic Marketing, Management Accounting Research and Tourism Management.
For several years Chris was editor of the journal Accounting, Accountability and Performance. He currently serves on the editorial boards of Accounting and Finance, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Management Accounting Research and Tourism Focus.
In recent years, Chris has been focusing his management accounting research on the hospitality and tourism industries and has developed a particular interest in the management and governance challenges arising in strata titled properties. Since 2005 he has chaired the biennial Strata and Community title in Australia for the 21st Century conference. He has secured several grants to support his research into strata title management issues from the CRC for Sustainable Tourism as well as organisations that include: the National Water Commission, National Community Titles Institute, Queensland Resident Accommodation Managers Association, and the Queensland Development Research Institute.
