Quality assurance system

Griffith's Framework for Quality Assurance is based on the Plan-Implement-Review-Improve (PIRI) model of quality assurance and improvement, and consists of the following linked elements:

  • A Planning Framework consisting of (a) Griffith's Strategic Plan that sets targets bench-marked against publicly available sector-wide performance data and (b) a cascading model in which the Strategic Plan and targets are used to drive the operational plans and key performance indicators within University-wide portfolios of research, and learning and teaching, and those of academic groups and administrative divisions
  • A systematic planning and review cycle for the review and implementation of group and divisional plans, consisting of evidence-based, strategic review of performance against key performance indicators, the identification of desirable improvements, integrated operational planning and budgeting, and implementation of strategic actions. A distinction is made between group/divisional strategic plans and operational plans, with the former operating on a five-year cycle, the latter on a one-year cycle; all operational plans clearly specify actions, responsibilities and budget provisions
  • A budget model that supports implementation of the University's strategic priorities
  • A rolling program of faculty and divisional reviews leading to improvement actions
  • Regular external professional accreditation of professional programs
  • Routine evaluation of programs, courses and teaching
  • Regular stakeholder surveying in relation to survey delivery
  • Review of progress towards targets incorporated into annual performance reviews of senior managers
  • Academic staff performance appraisals, conducted annually to assess individual performance relative to University objectives, to inform goal-setting for improvement and career-planning
