- Assessment
- The means by which students' progress in a course is evaluated. This can include assessment methods like assignments, exams, presentations, tutorial participation, forum participation.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- A document exchange software from Adobe Systems which allows users to view and print documents. With Acrobat Writer you can convert documents in various formats into a PDF file. Anybody with Acrobat Reader can read this file format.
- Blackboard
- A teaching and learning system used to deliver online resources and learning activities via Learning@Griffith.
- Browser
- The software that enables you to access and navigate the World Wide Web. The preferred University supported browser is Internet Explorer.
- Call number
- An alphanumeric code which identifies the shelf location of an item in the library. Griffith University libraries use the Library of Congress Classification System.
- Catalogue
- A comprehensive list of all of the materials in a given collection. Online catalogues are usually searchable by author, title, subject or keyword.
- Copyright
- The exclusive legal rights granted by a government to an author or creator to preserve the intellectual property of their creation. Copyright laws specify under what conditions copying of original copyrighted material can be done.
- Course
- A unit of study within a program. Each course is assigned a credit point value which contributes to the overall degree award.
- Course Convenor
- The academic staff member responsible for the management, conduct, teaching and assessment of a course.
- Course profiles
- Is an official and public document that provides students with information about what they can expect from the course and what is expected of them as they undertake the course
- Download
- The act of copying a file to your own computer or a storage device such as a floppy disc or CD.
- Email refers to electronic mail, which is a means of sending messages via the internet. Email can also allow you to send files as attachments to email messages. Each enrolled Griffith student is able to access and use a web-based email system.
- Enrolment status
- A student has an active enrolment status when they have accepted a letter of offer of admission to a program, and completed the enrolment procedures and other requirements specified by the University.
- Griffith Graduate
- In addition to acquiring knowledge and skills in a subject discipline, Griffith students will be encouraged to acquire generic skills which prepare students for the workplace and lifelong learning.
- Home Campus
- The campus linked to a program where the majority of courses are taught.
- Internet Service Provider (ISP)
- A company or organisation which provides a service, connecting your computer to the internet. Griffith University provides an internet service to students called Griffith at Home.
- Learning@Griffith
- The Griffith University Student Portal on the Griffith website. Using the Blackboard Learning Management System, Learning@Griffith provides an integrated online teaching and learning environment. Students studying courses in web supplemented, web dependent or fully online modes will be frequent users of Learning@Griffith.
- Netiquette
- Operating within an online environment requires adherence to a set of protocols and rules of conduct.
- Orientation
- Is the first taste new students have of the activities and events that are part of life on campus. Sessions available during Orientation.
- Portable Document Format, is a file type that can be displayed on any computer that has the Acrobat Reader Plugin installed. See also Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Plagiarism
- Implies academic dishonesty by not acknowledging the sources consulted and ideas used in writing a piece of work. This is considered to be a form of academic misconduct.
- Postgraduate
- Refers to a program of study described as Higher Doctorate, Doctorate by research, Doctorate by coursework, Masters by research, Masters by coursework, Graduate Diploma, and Graduate Certificate; or other award program of the University designated as postgraduate.
- Program
- The course of study leading to an award of the University e.g., Bachelor of Business degree.
- Program Convenor
- The Program Convenor is the Academic staff member (as designated by the Faculty Board) that is responsible for the program.
- Referencing Style
- Referencing or citing a source is done using a reference style, which is a standardised method of acknowledging information sources. Common referencing styles include APA and Harvard.
- Undergraduate
- Refers to a program of study, described as Bachelors Pass Degree, Bachelors Honours Degree Bachelors Graduate Entry, Diploma, Associate Diploma, and Advanced Certificate or other award program of the University designated as undergraduate.
