Bursaries and scholarships
Young Conservatorium Competitive Bursaries/Scholarships will be awarded from the auditions held each October. Bursaries/Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate a high degree of musical aptitude. Recipients will receive financial assistance towards the cost of applicable Young Conservatorium programs. All successful Young Conservatorium applicants are considered for bursaries each year.
Eligibility and selection process
Successful applicants in the Young Conservatorium are eligible for bursaries/scholarships. These will be determined and assessed from:
- performance ability and commitment
- individual needs
- any specific requirements of the Young Conservatorium programs
Chamber strings scholarships
Up to 40 Young Conservatorium Chamber Strings scholarships will be offered to successful applicants who are enrolled in the Young Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra.
Percussion ensemble scholarships
Up to 10 Young Conservatorium Percussion Ensemble scholarships will be offered to successful applicants who are enrolled in higher level Young Conservatorium ensembles.

Michael and Linda Beckman Young Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra scholarship
This bursary is given to assist a young trumpet players - in the last two years of secondary schooling - who displays great potential and who has ambitions to pursue a career in music. Recipients will receive financial assistance towards the cost of the Young Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra.
Alan Cumberland annual violin scholarship
The loan of this violin, donated by Alan Cumberland, is for a gifted secondary student for a period of 12 months. The student will be selected from the Young Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra.
Nora Baird keyboard prize
Young Conservatorium keyboard students may nominate for this prize held annually. Enrolled Young Conservatorium students will be notified of entry details during the year.
Tyalgum festival of classical music award
Young Conservatorium students aged between 12 - 16 years undertaking individual tuition can be nominated for this annual prize of $150. Young Conservatorium students will be notified of nomination details during the year.
Pacific Honours Ensemble Program - participation scholarship program
The Western International Band clinic in Seattle, USA, is a premiere honours program for the leading high school aged wind orchestra players on the US West Coast. This partnership with WIBC and our own State Honours Ensemble Program will see successful applicants provided with a Participation Scholarship. The awarding of the scholarship will require parents to contribute to the cost of the airfare to the US but will cover ground expenses including accommodation, some meals, transport and WIBC participation fees.
