- Fees are payable annually or quarterly, depending on programs (see below). Students in three or more activities at the Young Conservatorium may request the overall yearly fee be structured across the four terms of the same calendar year. Cheques are made payable to Griffith University. Payments can be made by mail, fax or via the Young Conservatorium office window on level three. Students who have outstanding fees in a term may not be permitted to continue.
- Early Childhood, Young Beginner, Ensemble and Music Awareness fees are paid per annum prior to commencement of classes. The full payment of fees is preferred at the time of your acceptance of program offers; however final payment date for annual fees is Monday 16 January 2012. In special cases e.g. financial hardship, and at the discretion of the Young Conservatorium Manager, a payment plan in installments may be devised to assist with payments.
- Individual Tuition is paid quarterly two weeks prior to the commencement of lessons for each term.
- Early Childhood Music (ECM) students: A sibling discount of $100 per annum is awarded for each child enrolled after the first sibling enrolment in the same year.
- Refunds will generally not be given for withdrawals from Young Conservatorium activities. No refunds will be given for failure to attend. Refunds will only be made without a service fee where classes are discontinued due to insufficient enrolments. No replacement lessons will be provided or credit given to students who fail to attend Early Childhood Music or other classes/group activities.
- Individual tuition students must give 24 hours notice if they will not be attending lessons; otherwise teachers will not be obliged to provide make up lessons. Where the required notice is not given, any refunds or credits will not be given.
- A student is not permitted to commence enrolment if fees are not paid for the year in advance. A student is not permitted to re-enrol if the individual tuition fee is in arrears.
- Withdrawal from any program after your acceptance for any reason other than certified medical grounds will result in the forfeit of fees.
- The Young Conservatorium reserves the right to decline or cancel any enrolment in any of its courses; to cancel classes at any time; and to change the teacher for any tuition at any time.
- The Young Conservatorium reserves the right to alter it's programs.
- The Young Conservatorium reserves the right to exclude from any program any participant who, in its opinion, places in jeopardy the safety or rights of others, or who appears to have rejected the reasonable controls placed upon them by the management and staff of that program. In this circumstance, participants excluded from any program will not receive a refund for any fees paid.
- Entry requirements for each individual program are listed in the programs and courses pages of the Young Conservatorium website.
- The Young Conservatorium reserves absolute rights and permission to use, reproduce, copy, exhibit, or distribute any videotape, audiotape, photographs, or computer files in which a Young Conservatorium student may be included for use in Griffith University publications, publicity material, or any other such purpose.
- All fees quoted in this brochure apply to Australian citizens and permanent residents of Australia. Overseas student fees are available on application.

Accompanists
Students will sometimes require the services of an accompanist. A list of official Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University accompanists can be obtained by calling the Young Conservatorium office. Students are not obliged to use a Conservatorium accompanist. Where accompanists are required for concerts or auditions the cost is to be met by the student.
Attendance
Becoming a student of the Young Conservatorium is a major commitment and students are expected to attend all classes and rehearsals. The Young Conservatorium administration officer must be given at least one day's notice of any absences. It is a requirement that all students make themselves available for concert performances and rehearsals. Unexplained absences may exclude you from the program and your enrolment may be cancelled.
Auditions
Applicants intending to enrol in ensembles and/or individual tuition are required to audition, unaccompanied. Applicants should prepare two contrasting movements or short peices of their own choice. Technical work and sight-reading may be requested at the time of audition.
Auditions may be undertaken on the following instruments: Voice, Flute, Piccolo, Oboe, Cor Anglais, E-flat Clarinet, B-flat Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Contrabassoon, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Tuba, Percussion, Timpani, Harp, Piano, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Drum Kit. Auditions are held outside of regular school hours. Each audition panel will consider the applicant's expressed preferences for ensemble placement but will place each applicant in what it considers to be the most appropriate ensemble for each applicants musical development. Recorded Auditions
Applicants from regional areas, or those who are unable to audition on their scheduled day, for certified medical reasons, may submit a recorded audition. Approval to submit a recorded audition is at the discretion of the Young Conservatorium. Details on how to prepare your recording and acceptable formats will be posted to you following this approval. Authentication will be required on submission of recorded auditions. Materials received after the closing date for recorded auditions will not be eligible for consideration. It is in the best interests to provide the highest quality recording possible to ensure you are accurately assessed. Recorded materials will not be returned unless requested.
Concerts
Students involved in the Young Conservatorium program are given the opportunity to perform in concerts at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University and other venues. The Young Conservatorium concerts are included as part of the official Queensland Conservatorium concert calendar which is made available to students at the beginning of each year.
Duty of Care
Young Conservatorium cares and acknowledges the broad principles underpinning the duty of care obligations imposed on educational institutions. The principles include those of a general nature, standard of care and parameters of duty of care. Young Conservatorium students are requested to observe guidelines and instructions as advised by Young Conservatorium staff at all times.
Individual Tuition Lesson Cancellations
In the case of a teacher being absent, the teacher is obliged to make up that lesson or carry it over to the next term. If a student misses a lesson due to illness or unavoidable circumstances and has given 24 hours notice to the Administration Officer, a make up lesson can be arranged at a mutually agreeable time between student and teacher. If however, a student has missed a lesson and has not contacted the Young Conservatorium administration officer or their teacher, the teacher is not obliged to make up the lesson. Note: Where students are absent for other reasons (e.g. holidays within term time) the teacher is not obliged to make up the lesson and no refund is payable.
Instrument Hire
Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University has a limited number of double basses (half, quarter and eighth size) that can be hired for the Young Conservatorium calendar year. The hire fee for these instruments is $120 per year and is payable at the commencement of term one.
Library Privileges
Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 receive borrowing privileges from the Queensland Conservatorium library. Students and caregivers will be required to complete the 'Borrowing Request Form' that is forwarded to students at the commencement of each calendar year. Students are encouraged to take advantage of this privilege to access the tertiary library. All Young Conservatorium students are welcome to visit the library and browse, however borrowing privileges at this time are only extended to senior secondary school students.
Reports
Students receiving individual tuition will receive progress reports from their teacher throughout the year.
Transport
The Queensland Conservatorium is a 10 minute walk from the city centre. Buses, trains and ferries link South Bank with the city. South Brisbane railway station is diagonally opposite the Queensland Conservatorium.
Visiting Artists
Young Conservatorium students benefit from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University's many visiting artists. Wherever possible visiting conductors and performers take rehearsals and offer masterclasses.
Parking
Street parking around Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University is limited. Off-street parking is available in the Queensland Performing Arts Complex, South Bank Parklands, Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and Secure Parking in the SW1 building.
