Classical music applies to traditions of music that developed in Europe and subsequently spread across the globe. Western Classical music extends back over a thousand years and incorporates a wide variety of instruments, styles and genres. These include orchestral music, chamber music, choral music, opera among many other forms of instrumental and vocal music.
Classical music is not only an important part of our cultural heritage but remains a vibrant part of our contemporary musical world.
The preservation and development of these traditions is central to the role of the Queensland Conservatorium which continues to build upon these foundations.
