returning books

You are responsible for all items you borrow until they are returned.

Renew and return your loans

Items that you have on loan will become overdue if you do not renew or return them by the due time and date. Items can only be renewed if there are no holds.

Renew loans by:

  • logging into My account and following the prompts (available up to 3 days past the due date)
  • using the Express Loan units (where available), if you have the library items with you
  • phoning the Library and IT helpdesk or
  • visiting the Library Service Desk

Loans may be returned to the:

  • Book return chutes at any campus library located on the external walls near the library entrance
  • Easy access library return bins located at Nathan Campus (ground level outside N53 opposite cinemas) and Gold Coast Parklands campus (University Drive and outside G06 Business)
  • Reserve items must be returned through the reserve desk chute at the campus from which they were borrowed

Penalties

From Semester 2 2011 we will no longer have overdue fines. You are still responsible for the items you borrow. This is how it works:

  • You will get a reminder email before your item's due date
  • If your items become overdue, your borrowing rights will be suspended, unless you return or renew the items
  • If you do not return or renew your items you will receive an emailed overdue notice
  • If no action is taken, you will then receive an email invoice for replacement costs
  • All invoices incur a reinstatement of borrowing charge, this must be paid before you can borrow again
  • Any outstanding library charges are considered to be a debt to the university and a financial encumbrance may be activated
  • All outstanding items must be returned or renewed before borrowing rights will be reinstated

High demand items such as reserve, short and laptop loans will move to invoice stage more quickly than standard loans.
