The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (formerly Department of Education, Science and Technology) maintains the Australian higher education quality assurance framework which sets the roles of various bodies in Australian higher education quality assurance: the Commonwealth, Australian States and Territories, the Australian Qualifications Framework and the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency.
The Department has a program specifically for quality assurance of international education.
Performance Indicators
Performance indicators are used for analysis of the performance of undergraduate programs as required by the University's Program Planning, Development, Approval and Review Processes.
Performance Indicator data are available via three main sources:
- DEEWR Higher Education Students, Staff and Finance collections;
- DEEWR Research Data Collection; and
- annual Graduate Destinations Survey and Course Experience Questionnaire.
The indicators gauge both the similar and varied characteristics of Australian Universities. They also reveal various features of the student experience at higher education institutions and measure the performance of Universities in several areas relevant to their core activities.
