Celebrating teaching excellence week

2009  Celebrating Teaching Excellence Week Program

Dear Colleagues,

I would like to extend a personal invitation to all Griffith staff to participate in the University's second Celebrating Teaching Excellence Week.  This will be held in study week from the 2nd to the 6th of November 2009.Sue-Spence-resized

Celebrating Teaching Excellence Week provides a dedicated focus on teaching and learning and offers opportunities for Griffith staff to engage in a diverse range of local and University-wide events.  Activities focus on current issues in learning and teaching, showcase initiatives and offer opportunities for staff to network with colleagues within Faculties, Groups and across the University. Many Faculties and Schools will also be hosting celebratory events to congratulate Griffith and Australian Learning and Teaching Council (ALTC) award winners.

This year the week will be launched with a full day of exciting activities at Logan, commencing with a presentation by Professor Mark Israel from Flinders University. Professor Israel is a distinguished scholar, winning the inaugural ALTC Prime Minister's Australian University Teacher of the Year Award in 2004 and a Teaching Fellowship in 2008. Professor Israel is an inspiring and entertaining presenter and his Fellowship, which focuses on connections between awards and leadership in higher education, goes to the heart of the theme of Celebrating Teaching Excellence Week.

Further events in the week include the:

  • WIL Symposium plus an inaugural showcase of excellence in WIL student work across all disciplines
  • First Year Advisor Showcase
  • Celebrating Blended Learning Exemplars
  • Celebrating Teaching Seminar
  • Presentation by Associate Professor Peter Hutchings, the Director of Grants, Awards and Fellowships at ALTC
  • ALTC Fellows Panel with three Griffith ALTC Fellows, Professor Israel and Associate Professor Peter Hutchings

While we are all very busy I encourage all staff to take some time out to take part in the Celebrating Teaching Excellence Week.  I look forward to your feedback on the week's activities.

Best regards
Sue Spence
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic)
