The Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, Skills and Ethics is a postgraduate program that satisfies the practical training requirement for admission as a legal practitioner in Queensland. We offer the course in full-time (on-campus) and part-time (on-line) modes.
In the full-time program, students complete intensive, practical training across 22 weeks in preparation for completion of the 25-day external work placement. We have a range of supervisors who work with us in providing students with experience across many different areas of practice.
We have programs commencing in January and July each year on the South Bank and Gold Coast campuses.
To be eligible for entry into our part-time program, students need to be working in a legal environment.
Online programs commence in February and July each year and run part-time for 32 weeks.
Students do need to complete 10 days of face-to-face skills training. A range of delivery modes are available in this regard.
The Graduate Certificate in Legal Practice, Skills and Ethics (In Practice) is available to students completing traineeships. Trainees are required to complete 90 hours of 'approved training' as a prerequisite for admission as a legal practioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland. The Legal Practice Centre is approved to provide you with that training and any supplementary training.Trainees are required to complete the following training during their workplace experience:
- Workplace training in specified practice areas, complying with the legislated list of competencies. If the firm is unable to offer training in all specified areas, the trainee must complete 'supplementary training' with an approved provider; and
- All trainees must complete 90 hours of 'approved training' (that includes training in Ethics)
In this program, students complete the compulsory course 7153LAW Ethics and Professional Responsibility and then select other online courses to meet the needs of their workplace or interest.
