The John and Alison Kearney Scholarships in Law
Established through the generosity of Mr John Kearny AM QC DUniv and Mrs Alison Kearney, the John and Alison Kearney Scholarships in Law are designed to provide opportunities to Griffith Law School students for the study of law overseas.
Mr Kearney practiced as a barrister for over 50 years (mainly in Melbourne). He was appointed Queens Counsel in 1964, awarded Doctor of the University in recognition for his service to the University in 2000, and appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2005. Over the last 25 years, Mr and Mrs Kearney have been deeply committed to the development of education and have been major benefactors to a number of educational institutions.
Mr and Mrs Kearney have, through their generosity, long supported quality education in Queensland, earning the respect of students, the Griffith University community, the legal profession and the wider community.

- Number of Scholarships available
- A total of 25 Scholarships are available from semester 2, 2010 to semester 1, 2015
- Eligibility

To be eligible for this Scholarship you must:
- be enrolled in a Bachelor of Laws program hosted by the Griffith Law School and be in your penultimate or final year of study
- have submitted an application to study overseas for a student exchange of a minimum of one semester duration as part of your Bachelor of Laws program
- have not already been awarded the Scholarship
- be an Australia citizen and hold a current valid Australian Passport or hold a permanent humanitarian visa
- undertake to complete a minimum of 30 Griffith University credit points value for elective law courses or 60 Griffith University credit points value for elective law courses if undertaking two semesters of study
- submit a current curriculum vitae
- submit a copy of your unofficial transcript
- submit a brief statement (no longer than A4 page) as to how the international experience will assist you in your studies, including the manner in which the Scholarship funds will be used. In addition to your studies, you should comment on what you would like to achieve whilst on this exchange and how you intend to share your international experience.
- Selection process

Scholarships will be awarded on a combination of:
- academic ability
- demonstrated leadership skills, both proven and potential
- community and extra curricular activities
- personal character including interest in the service of others.
- Application process
- It is your responsibility to ensure that your completed application form and supporting documentation, including referees' reports, are submitted by the due date. If supporting documentation is not received or attached to your application by the due date your application will not be considered.
- Application closing dates

Applications must be submitted as follows:
- exchange in semester 1 - no later than 16 September in the year prior to the year of study
- exchange in semester 2 - no later than 16 April in the year of study.
