Below are brief capsules of newsworthy events concerning the Griffith Law School Community.
Breaking News: Law students top international field
Our law students are top of the world when it comes to the field of international commercial arbitration, taking out first place in a renowned international moot competition.
Final year students Eammon Atkinson and Mathew Shelley won the Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moot Competition held in Hong Kong recently, beating more than 50 international teams, from England, America, Germany and Italy, to name just a few.
International commercial arbitration is an area of law vital to the global business sector.
The students were also honoured for their presentation skills with Mathew announced as Second Runner-Up Best Oralist and Eammon also receiving an honourable mention.
The Griffith Law School (GLS) also entered a team in the Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot competition, held in Vienna against more than 200 teams.
The Vienna team of Suzannah D’Juliet and Peter Swan placed fifth overall and received individual honourable mentions.

Breaking News: Griffith Law School accepting nominations for the inaugural Kirby Prize
Awarded to a past or present student of Griffith Law School, The Kirby Prize acknowledges an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to queer issues either through the production of a piece of scholarly work or through their involvement in the queer community. In evaluating a nominee's suitability, the Committee will look specifically for a contribution that furthers the principles of inclusiveness, diversity and acceptance as espoused by Justice Kirby in connection with gay, lesbian, transgender and intersex issues. Major event: 'Australian Federalism - Rescue and Reform' Conference and roundtable, Tenterfield NSW, 23-25 October 2008.
Griffith University's Federalism Project and the Institute of Public Administration Australia are discussing the future of Australia's federal system, including practical options for reform. The venue will be the Tenterfield School of Arts Museum, the 'birthplace' of Australian federation in which Sir Henry Parkes gave his famous 1889 Oration.
