Meet the Profession, Gold Coast - Tuesday 4 August

In a first for the Griffith Law School, our 'Meet the Profession' Gold Coast event will be held as a 'speed networking' function at the Sheraton Mirage on Tuesday 4 August.

In the style of 'speed dating', the event will bring together our students and the local legal community for an evening of fun, networking and amazing opportunities. The students are given a rare chance to meet and form relationships with members of the legal community, while our professional guests may take the opportunity to seek out future recruits.

Year 12 Early Entry Program

Year 12 students from across the Gold Coast are taking part in our Early Entry Program. The program provides selected students with the opportunity for direct entry into a 2010 law degree upon the successful completion of four interactive visits to the campus. Academic achievement in Legal Studies and English are also a prerequisite for the program.

The program is the first of its kind for the Griffith Law School and was devised by Gold Coast high school principals, Legal Studies teachers and the Law School.

Law Experience Days

Our experience days offer high school studentsExperience-Day-web an opportunity to be university students for a day and experience Griffith first-hand. Students are invited on campus to participate in law activities, such as sitting in on first-year lectures and participating in tutorials and workshops. Throughout the day students are given a chance to meet with lecturers, staff and like minded students from other schools.

The Griffith Law School is held in high regard both nationally and internationally for its award-winning mooting skills.  Our recent Law School Experience Day gave students a taste of Mooting, and proved very popular with all students looking to study law.  After the demonstration by Griffith Law School students (currently our International Vis Moot Champions), our visiting guests played the role of the jury and explained how they came to their verdict and sentence.

Law students finish in top spots

Nick-and-SairaTwo Law School teams have made it to the semi-finals in prestigious international moot and client counselling competitions.

The first team of Nicholas Rudd and Saira Khan (pictured) earned equal third at the Vis International Commercial Arbitration in Vienna, while Karyn Bell and Lisa Loi competed in the Louis M. Brown International Client Counselling Competition in Las Vegas.

Nicholas and Saira made it through four general rounds to compete in the sudden death rounds where they were narrowly defeated by Victoria University, Wellington, who went on to win the competition.

Nicholas was also given an honourable mention in the individual oralist awards - an honour bestowed on fewer than five per cent of participants.

Coached by Therese Wilson and Mary Keyes from the Law School, the moot encourages the study of international commercial law and arbitration.

The Vienna team was advised and supported by Khory McCormick, partner at Minter Ellison law firm.

The second team of Karyn Bell and Lisa Loi had just three weeks to prepare before their trip to Las Vegas and were coached by Jeff Giddings.

It’s the fifth time Griffith has represented Australia in the competition in the past 12 years.
