Overseas Student Health Cover

We're organising your health cover for you! It is a condition of your Australian student visa that you obtain Overseas Student Health Cover for the duration of your student visa for your studies in Australia. As long as you are a student at Griffith and you are on an Australian Student Visa you will be covered by OSHC through Worldcare, Griffith University's preferred provider.

You will be required to pay your OSHC fee to Griffith University at the time of accepting your offer. You will be charged A$197 per semester (fees are subject to change) and you will be charged for the duration of your visa at the beginning.

*If you are planning to study for more one semester please contact the Study Abroad office regarding OSHC fees.

Students who are citizens of Norway are normally exempt from paying OSHC under a mutual government arrangement. Swedish students must have insurance through CSN International (the Swedish National Board of Student Aid) to be exempt from OSHC.

Living expenses

South East Queensland is generally considered one of the more affordable places on the East Coast. Living expenses are estimated at between A$7,000 and A$9,000 per semester (this is in addition to the University's fees and charges detailed above).

Car parking on or around Griffith campuses are extremely limited, can be expensive and is generally not recommended as a preferred mode of transport for Study Abroad & Exchange students. Even if you do purchase a vehicle for use during your semester/year at Griffith, it is strongly advised you use public transport to get to and from the campus.

Academic expenses

Text books will cost approximately A$200-600 per semester and students in specialist courses may need to purchase additional equipment, including lab supplies and art supplies.

Higher fees may be charged for courses that involve practical work, individual tuition or travelling in the inter-semester period (e.g. International Business Country Study).

Students are required to pay a levy for QCA courses at the Gold Coast and South Bank campuses. This is payable directly to the school on arrival and contributes towards the cost of consumables and materials required for practical courses. Students are not required to purchase textbooks for these courses. The amount payable depends on the number of QCA courses students take each semester:

  • 1 or 2 courses = $37.50 per semester
  • 3 or 4 courses = $75.00 per semester
