Griffith Business School International Academic-Golf Scholarship
Griffith University is pleased to announce a new international student scholarship opportunity with the Australian PGA’s International Golf Institute (PGA IGI) for 2012. Griffith University's Pro Vice Chancellor (International) Christopher Madden and Pro Vice Chancellor (Business) Professor Michael Powell made the recent announcement at the PGA’s flagship event co-sanctioned with One Asia at the Australian PGA championships in Coolum, December 2010.
Griffith University has been the PGA of Australia’s preferred education provider since the program’s inception in 1993. Since the start of their program, the Australian PGA, through the PGA IGI, have significantly developed its golf education curriculum and its relationship with Griffith University.
The academic-golf scholarships will be used to fund four (4) international students each year with 50% of their tuition fees being paid by the scholarships in years two and three of their study at Griffith University.
Timeline for Processing February 2011 Applications:
- Applications will close on the 11 February 2011.
- All applicants will be advised, in writing, of the outcome of their scholarship application by the 15 Feb 2011.
- Scholarship winners will have until 22 Feb 2011 to accept their scholarship offer.
Timeline for Processing Applications Received from 2012 Onwards:
- Applications close on 31 October each year for students commencing in February/March.
- Applications close on 30 April each year for students commencing in July.
- Scholarship applications are reviewed by a joint Griffith University/PGA IGI selection panel. The Pro Vice Chancellor (International) and the Pro Vice Chancellor (Business) or nominee will approve the scholarship recipients based on the recommendations of the selection panel.
- All applicants for the February/March scholarship round will be advised, in writing, of the outcome of the scholarship by the end of December each year. All applicants for the July scholarship round will be advised, in writing, of the outcome of the scholarship by the
beginning of June each year. - Scholarship winners will have until mid-January or the end of June each year to accept their scholarship. Scholarship offers not accepted by the date outlined on the scholarship letter may be withdrawn by the University.
Eligibility Requirements
Scholarships will only be available to applicants who
- are not Australian citizens.
- have applied to and been accepted for enrolment into the Diploma of Golf Management and the additional Practical Golf Skills Units at the PGA International Golf Institute
- will be commencing (not existing) students at PGA IGI in 2011;
- are enrolling as a full-time student in the PGA International Golf Institute’s Diploma of Golf Management and have applied for a packaged offer through Griffith International for years 2 and 3 with the Griffith Business School, Griffith University.
Application Requirements
Applicant selection will be based on:
- Strong academic merit (normally the equivalent of at least a Queensland’s Overall Position (OP) 10 score or better), a certified/attested true copy of supporting documentation must be submitted with application. Please note that if students do not meet the academic requirements then scholarships may not be awarded;
- Demonstrated leadership ability. Applications should include at least one professional reference;
- Golf handicap and experience, with listed highlights and career golf industry goals;
- Personal character. Applications should include at least one reference from a PGA Professional or your personal golf industry mentor / instructor;
- Applicant’s personal statement. The personal statement should include why the applicant has applied for the scholarship, and why the applicant intends to study with the PGA IGI and Griffith University, plus other information the applicant feels strengthens the application for the scholarship.
