On Monday 28 November 2011 a delegation led by Mr. Xiaochun Song, Party Leader and Vice Dean, of the WTO Studies School, Wuhan University, and his delegation of five, visited the Griffith Nathan campus. Mr. Yu met with a number of Griffith’s academic and research staff to discuss avenues for the two institutions to expand collaborations to include Creative Arts, Technology and Business. This was a very productive visit and both parties had a number of innovative ideas to share about expanding the Griffith-Wuhan partnership, particularly in disciplines that complement each of their teaching and research strengths. Griffith’s bilateral relations with this prestigious institution began 14 years ago with a student and staff exchange agreement with the Griffith Law School in 1997. The mobility between the two, since the signing of their original agreement, has been active and reciprocal over the years, and provided the foundation for the partnership to expand mature. Wuhan is regarded as one of the best and most selective tertiary education providers in China, with a history dating back to 1893. This makes it one of the oldest higher learning institutions in the country. It is located in Wuhan, the capital of the Hubei Province and similar to Griffith, has interesting elements of history, and fosters a culture that also committed to multidisciplinary and innovative approaches to higher education and research.
