Step 7
To study in Australia, international students must apply for a student visa. When your documentation has been received by Griffith International and you have met all the necessary conditions and requirements, the university will email you (or your agent) an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment.
If you do not have an email address or access to the Internet, a printed COE will also be mailed to you. Using your Confirmation of Enrolment form, you can apply for your visa from an Australian Embassy or Australian High Commission as well as the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

- There is an easy to follow step-by-step guide to applying for a student visa through the Department of Immigration and Citizenship
- Please be aware that applicants for a student visa may also require a health check as well as finance assessment
The conditions of your student visa include maintaining an enrolment load that enables you to finish your studies within the standard duration of your program, as noted on the electronic Confirmation of Enrolment. This means that in most cases, you will need to be enrolled in 40 Credit Points per semester, or be prepared to catch up enrolment load during summer semesters in order to complete your studies on time.
Visas and working as an international student
Permission to work involves restrictions on the number of hours you will be allowed to work in a week and this differs on the kind of visa you hold.
The following restrictions apply to a student visa
- A maximum of 20 hours a week during the term, not including work that is a formal registered part of your course
- Unlimited hours during recognised vacations periods (i.e. mid-semester, mid-year and student summer vacation from November to March)
