Step 3 - Apply for Credit

Griffith University awards credit for study undertaken in recognised tertiary institutions in Australia and overseas. If you have partially or fully completed studies at another institution, you may be eligible to receive credit towards your Griffith University degree. This means you don't have to repeat courses that you have successfully completed elsewhere.

  • International students should apply to be pre-assessed for credit transfer at the time of lodging your application for admission to the University, by using the Credit Transfer Application form (PDF 119k)
  • You are then required to lodge an Acceptance of credit transfer - International students (PDF 117k) form when you enrol in your classes at Griffith University.

The credit application process

  1. Visit the Credit Precedent Database and search for your program:
    • if you do find your program and/or course on this database, you will not have to supply your course (subject) outlines when applying to Griffith for credit.
    • if you do not find your course on this database, you will need to supply your course outlines, and an assessment will be made to determine if you are eligible for credit.
  2. Complete section 10 of the Credit transfer application form (PDF 119K) and supply supporting documentation.
  3. Your credit application will be assessed by the Credit office.
  4. You will be advised of the outcome by mail, fax or email. You will receive a Credit Pre-assessment letter confirming the amount of credit you will gain if you enrol in the specific program stated on your offer letter.
  5. Once you accept your offer and enrol at Griffith University, you must then apply for official credit transfer prior to the commencement of studies (i.e. before week 1 of semester).

To do this, you must submit an Acceptance of credit transfer - International students (PDF 117k) along with your Credit Pre-assessment letter when you have arrived in Australia.

Enrolling in courses once you have credit

As the amount of credit granted can impact on your program structure and the time taken to complete your degree, refer back to Programs and Courses for your requirements to ensure that you complete the required courses for your degree program.
