Congratulations, you have taken the first step towards living and studying overseas with the Griffith Exchange Program! This website has all the information you need to know about going on exchange. Below is some key information to get you started on making this exciting opportunity a reality!
Who can apply?
Students must:
- have a GPA of 4.5 or above
- have completed one semester of study at Griffith (minimum 30CP)*
- be currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Masters degree on campus at Griffith
- have a current passport
*Students must have completed a minimum of 60CP at Griffith by the time they depart for exchange. Transfer credit from another institution does not count towards this 60CP. If you have transferred credit from another Griffith bachelor degree this will be counted.
International and postgraduate students are eligible to apply. Postgraduate students can usually apply after their first semester of study at Griffith but must confirm this with their Griffith program convenor before applying.
Students can study one semester or one year of their Griffith degree on exchange.
Some Griffith degrees do not allow for a semester exchange program including: Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Pharmacy/Pharmaceutical Science, Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Dentistry and Oral Health (see alternatives to semester exchange below).
Students studying Griffith courses through Open Universities Australia are not eligible to apply.
Where can I study?
- Click on the tab to the left titled "Partner Institutions" and you will see all of the universities we are partnered with.
- What you are studying at Griffith will decide where you can go, however, many of our partners offer comprehensive courses in most study areas.
- Unless you are studying a language you will always study courses in English - many of our partners in Asia, Europe and South America teach courses in English.
- Start with a country you are interested in and work from there to see which partners in that country offer the courses you need.
Will exchange extend the length of my degree?
- No! While on exchange you will study what you normally study at Griffith and gain credit towards your Griffith degree for this study. This means you will study an equivalent course to those in your core/major courses at Griffith or use any free choice electives you have in your degree to study almost anything you like.
How do i find courses and get credit?
- Courses must be approved by your program convenor on what's called a study plan - click on the tab to the left titled "How To Apply" and under here you will find a tab titled "Study Plan". Here you will find detailed info about how to complete a study plan.
What will it cost?
- Tuition is paid to Griffith University, there is no extra tuition paid to the overseas university - this means students are responsible for their travel and living costs.
- We recommend students have anything from $12,000 to $15,000 for their exchange incorporating all costs (flights, accommodation, spending money etc). In saying this some students spend more and some spend less - for this reason all students should do their own budget at the start of the process so they are fully aware of how much money they will need to fund their exchange.
What scholarships and loans are available?
- Click on the tab to the left titled "Scholarships" and you will see all of the scholarships and loans on offer and the eligibility requirements for each of them.
- You don't need to apply separately for a scholarship, you will be considered for anything you are eligible for after you apply.
- The OS-HELP loan has a set of eligibility requirements - if you meet these requirements then you can get the loan, there is no selection process for this loan.

How can I apply?
- Click on the tab to the left titled "How to Apply" and you will see the application form, supporting documents required and the deadlines for when this is due to the exchange office on your campus.
- You do NOT have to have a meeting with the exchange adviser on your campus before making an application, simply follow the instructions given on this tab and apply!
What alternatives are there to a semester exchange program?
- Click on the tab to the left titled "Short-term Programs" and you will see a host of opportunities available during the Griffith summer and winter holidays.
- Each program has its own application process so simply follow the instructions given on our website to apply. For programs offered through a Partner Organisation, please contact the organisation directly for more information.
Where can I get more information?
- The exchange staff run information sessions regularly each semester - dates and times can be found by clicking the tab to the left titled "News and Events". This page is updated regularly depending on staff availability so please confirm details of the session by checking this tab on the day of each session.
- Read the exchange brochure for a comprehensive overview of the program
- If after you have read all the information on this website you still have questions please contact the exchange office on your campus - click on the tab to the left titled "Contact Us" to find out who is available on your campus.
