VPN Software Installation for Windows
Watch a 5 minute demonstration which will guide you through the step by step process to connect to the Wireless@Griffith service.
<< Before you start >>
You may need to configure your personal Firewall settings to access the VPN Software.
Uninstall all previous versions of the Cisco Systems VPN Client.
To uninstall, go to
- Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs
- Scroll down and highlight either Cisco Systems VPN Client or VPN Client
- Click Change/Remove
- Follow the prompts to remove the existing VPN software

Follow these steps to download, install, and run VPN software
STEP 1 - Download the VPN Software
- << NOTE >>
If you have already downloaded and saved this file to your desktop, go to STEP 2
- Go to the VPN software download web page
- Choose your operating system
<< IMPORTANT >>
- Choose Save when you are prompted to either Open or Save

- Choose Save in: Desktop when the Save As window opens
- Click Save

- You will see a vpnclient....exe icon on the desktop when the file is downloaded.
The icon may look something like the one below.

STEP 2 - Install the VPN Software
- Go to the desktop
- Double-click the new desktop vpnclient....exe icon
- Follow the prompts to install the software
- Restart your computer when installation is completed
STEP 3 - Run the VPN Software
- Connect to the internet or to the Wireless@Griffith network
- Go to Start > Programs > Cisco Systems VPN Client
- Click on yellow, VPN Client padlock icon
- Highlight Griffith Remote Access (VLink) if you are logging in from your home computer via a private Internet Service Provider
- Highlight Wireless@Griffith if you are logging in via Wireless@Griffith in a campus Smart Zone
- Click the Connect button

- Enter your Griffith username and password when the User Authentication window opens
- Click OK
- Click Continue when you see the This connection is for authorised clients only
- You will see the yellow VPN padlock in your computer System Tray (bottom right-hand corner of your desktop near the clock when the VPN is connected

The lock is closed when your are connected to VLink
- The lock is open when you are not connected to VLink
You can now access Griffith University secure web sites including library databases.
Log into NetCheck as necessary and remember to log out again after you have finished.
When you have finished using the VLink or Wireless@Griffith service Service, right-mouse click the VPN padlock icon in the System Tray and choose Disconnect.
