In accordance with Part VB of the Copyright Act, Griffith University has an agreement with The Copyright Agency Limited (CAL) to make multiple copies of certain amounts of published works for:
The licence covers both the making of photocopies and the digitising of materials for these purposes. Digital copies may be made available to students on CD-ROM or online. For information on online delivery, please see the chapter The Internet, The Web and Copyright. For CD-ROM distribution, see the chapter Course Readings on CD-ROM.
If you are making print copies for your students, you may copy:
Note that these amounts are on the basis of per course unit per semester. For detailed guidance, refer to Printed Course Materials – Copyright Guidelines.
As a general rule, you may not include articles from the licensed electronic resources to which the Library subscribes, such as ProQuest. Usage of these is governed by the terms of the licence agreement between the University and the provider, not by the Copyright Act. These agreements do not usually permit articles to be copied for books of readings.
The University may make compilations (course packs) of copied works, and sell them through the University Bookshop, on a cost recovery basis. The course packs may not be sold to make a profit. The number of pages copied must be declared on your printing requisition, as this is the way that the cost recovery is determined.
To arrange printing and distribution of books of readings, visit the Digitisation and Distribution web pages.
If the material you intend to copy does not seem to fit any of the categories in the detailed guidelines, you should contact the University Copyright Officer, Mark Magner, on 555 29331 (Griffith) or 313 84024 (QUT) for assistance, or e-mail him at M.Magner@griffith.edu.au. The Copyright Officer is a position shared between Griffith and QUT.
