These regular annual meetings provided an essential means for personal interaction/understanding leading to collaborative projects (as agreed by international meetings going back to 1972 Stockholm, and first Man and the Biosphere (MAB) meeting at KL in August 1974 which buried the International Biological Programme (IBP) and inaugurated the MAB project No. 1 on Tropical and Subtropical Forest Ecosystems in SE Asia). There is a lot of material/reports by MAB in material donated by me (L.J. Webb) to Griffith University Library which will be of singular scientific historical importance for tropical ecological research as time goes on. Already, the SE Asian "connection" foreshadowed in biological/ecological biogeographical research earlier this century has become basic (e.g. as "common ecological language") throughout the Region for political-economic interactions and understanding - although so far unrecognised by governments, and even by most Australian scientists!
